Stand M72, Media Production & Technology Show (MPTS), London, 15 – 16 May 2024 – Pioneers in microservices-based production environments, nxtedition, demonstrated the latest advances in storytelling technology at the Media Production & Technology Show (stand M72, London Olympia, 15 – 16 May).

This year nxtedition demonstrated an immersive AR gallery enabling visitors to virtually operate a studio located in Malmö, Sweden, directly from the show floor in London. This cutting-edge AR gallery is not only a testament to nxtedition’s innovative approach but will also be featured as part of the 2024 IBC Accelerator Programme. This immersive experience underscores nxtedition’s commitment to evolving the most advanced technologies to enhance agility, productivity and operational efficiency in live production.

Also, on show was the Llama 3 LLM integration running directly on the nxtedition platform. In the upcoming update, Llama 3 will introduce a smarter semantic search feature to the nxtedition fuzzy search. Users will be able to ask questions using everyday language, and the system will find relevant content based on those questions. This eliminates the need for users to use specific keywords or commands to locate content. Additionally, Llama 3 will also integrate internally with OpenAI Whisper, a tool for converting spoken words into text, to automatically, on publish, create titles and description suggestions for social media posts based upon the Whisper transcription of the content.

The nxtedition platform prioritises ease of use and flexibility over complexity and the integration of Llama 3 and Open AI’s Whisper reinforces nxtedition’s commitment to secure and cost-effective open-source AI processing. This powerful combination equips users with straightforward solutions to everyday tasks like adding subtitles, conducting semantic searches and tweaking stories for social media. It all adds up to a frictionless workflow and better user experience, all while keeping costs under control.

Version 22 of nxtedition also includes seamless integration with DaVinci Resolve, automated thumbnail previews for fast video preview directly in the rundown and a new map view displaying the GPS location for any asset in the platform.

“Our primary goal is to simplify storytelling and reduce the headaches legacy systems create” said Adam Leah, Creative Director at nxtedition. “Our technology empowers media professionals with intuitive tools that enhance agility and productivity whilst simultaneously providing a predictable cost of ownership.”

nxtedition is utilised globally across various media applications, including newsrooms, sports broadcasting, and live events.  or

About nxtedition

Founded in 2012, nxtedition has revolutionised video production as one of the world’s most creative software products in the broadcasting industry. nxtedition was one of the first to approach the simplification of the broadcast process by virtualising microservices to replace legacy systems. The existing paradigm of appliance-based products from multiple manufacturers creates layers of complexity which are expensive to purchase, difficult to maintain, hard to integrate and need specialist staff to operate.

The frustrations of these inefficient workflows brought nxtedition into being, taking a rather unconventional route which uses the latest in web technologies and re-purposes them within a broadcast environment. nxtedition virtualises appliance products (prompters, newsroom control systems, automation, media asset management, transcoding, video servers, graphics systems) and creates microservices to provide virtual instances of their functionality.

The core ethos of nxtedition is to plan, write, edit, play out and archive productions within a single consolidated system where the focus is purely on storytelling and not the underlying technology.
